I am writing this to celebrate The Pearl Exchange and the people that make it all possible! So, what is it? - it’s a culmination of all things artistic, musical and expressive, A space for reflection and connection.
The first time I went to The Pearl Exchange, I was nervous about going by myself, however, that was instantly dispelled once I stepped inside where I was greeted and asked if I wanted a cup of tea. I instantly felt like I was in a place of open, free expression and that I could just be myself; a prospect I know a lot of people find daunting.
The Pearl Exchange motto is ‘Create, Nurture, Inspire’, and rightly so..
Create.
They encourage people to get hands on creating artwork ~ doing screen printing, lino cutting, leather-work, typo/graphic workshops and just wholeheartedly support creation of all forms! They have been putting on ‘Arty Fridays’ which has been a great way for people to dip their proverbial toes into experimenting and creating their own artwork, aside of that; The Pearl Exchange have put on a whole host of workshops like leather-working, stone carving, and recently, I had an opportunity to put on my own typographic workshop which is a great way to expand into hosting more workshops in the future and has considerably bolstered my confidence in my ability to do so.
Nurture.
There is an aura of care, consideration and just positive vibes all-round. A communal mindset of nurturing and kindling friendships between people who have creativity in common. They are not only a welcoming place for those who are seeking mental health progress, but they actively facilitate therapy sessions and confidence building activities to help get you out of your shell.
Inspire.
Inspiring us to grow as people, as a place of reflection, contemplation and growth; not only in our character, but in our ability to step outside the comfort zone. A couple of weeks ago I was inspired to go and jump in the sea pool with them at 9 in the morning, something that I probably wouldn’t do by myself, but it gave me reason to; and not only that, it gave me purpose for the day - and a smile on my face while doing so.
All I can say is that I am so grateful for The Pearl Exchange! - They have created a physical space where people can talk openly, passionately and genuinely about themselves, their passions and their mental health journey. This is not only great for the community, but honours Pearl and her memory.
Thanks for reading - sharing this would really help me out.
